Registration & Directions

Question: How do I register my child for 5th grade?
Answer: Registration takes place in March. You will need the elementary school report card, proof of measles vaccination, and, if applicable, a recommendation from the elementary school. Dates and registration forms will be available on the school website in due course. The school can be reached by bus or S-Bahn (suburban train) with a short walk from Breisach train station.

Counseling

Question: What counseling services are available for students and parents?
Answer: Counseling is available from teachers, the school administration, a school social worker, a guidance counselor, and a school chaplain. Additionally, there is on-site career counseling provided by the Federal Employment Agency.

Computer Equipment

Question: How well equipped is the school with digital media?
Answer: All classrooms have interactive whiteboards. There are computer labs and tablets for media literacy. Information and the timetable are displayed on digital bulletin boards.

Digital Platforms

Question: Which digital platforms are used?
Answer: Moodle (learning), WebUntis (timetable), and eAssistant (communication). Students receive their login details from their teachers.

Parental Involvement & European School

Question: How can parents get involved, and what does "European School" mean?
Answer: Parents participate in the Parent Council and can support the school's support association. They help with projects and school events. The school was awarded the title "European School" for its contribution to a tolerant, democratic society.

Support Association

Question: What is the support association for?
Answer: It supports class trips, extracurricular activities, and projects. You can become a member – information is available on the website.

All-Day Programs

Question: Are there all-day programs?
Answer: Yes. The school offers learning and recreational activities in the afternoon.

Cell Phone Use & School Rules

Question: What are the rules regarding cell phones and behavior?
Answer: Cell phones are not allowed in class. Everyone is expected to treat each other kindly and respectfully. This is regulated in the school rules and regulations.

International Encounters

Question: What international connections does the school have?
Answer: There are student exchange programs with France, Poland, and Costa Rica, as well as study trips to England. This provides regular opportunities for interaction with young people from other countries.

Yearbook

Question: Does the school publish a printed yearbook?

Question: Does the school have a cafeteria?
Answer: Yes. The cafeteria uses organic products from regional producers. Meals can be ordered via a terminal in the main hall or online. Registration and cafeteria chips are available through the school office.

Namesake

Question: Who was Hugo Höfler?
Answer: Hugo Höfler was a pastor who saved Breisach Minster from ruin after World War II. Hugo Höfler was very involved in social projects and is an honorary citizen of the city of Breisach.

Opening Hours

Question: When are the school building and the school office open?
Answer: The school building opens at 7:00 a.m. The office is open from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Projects & Profiles

Question: What projects and profiles are offered?
Answer: There are three project weeks with different focuses throughout the school year, as well as other extracurricular activities. The school is a European school and offers a bilingual program and a music, art, and sports program.

Qualifications 

Question: What additional qualifications can be obtained?
Answer: International qualifications can be obtained with the DELF diploma in French and the Cambridge Certificate in English (PET).

Wheelchair Accessibility

Question: I use a wheelchair. Is there an elevator?
Answer: Yes. The school is fully accessible and has an elevator. If you require assistance reaching the administration building on the first floor or other areas of the school, please contact the office.

School Dog, School Song & Student Café

Question: What is special about the school?
Answer: School dog Elvis is part of the team. There is also a school song. Students run their own student café.

Dance Sport

Question: What does "dance sport-focused school" mean?
Answer: The school has the designation "dance sport-focused school." Dances and choreographies are rehearsed in modules and performed at graduation ceremonies and public events.

Class Times

Question: When are classes? 
Answer: Classes begin at 8:00 a.m. and end between 1:10 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Breaks are from 9:30 a.m. to 11:20 a.m., and lunch is at 1:10 p.m.

Question: Who are the main contacts, and what does VKL mean?
Answer: Headmaster: Dr. Christoph Wolk, Manuela Schmitt, and Markus Rupp, Secretary: Heidrun Dinkel, Caretaker: Gregor Golla. VKL stands for preparatory class for students with limited German language skills.

Competitions 

Question: Do students participate in competitions? 
Answer: Yes. There is an in-house environmental competition. Additionally, The Big Challenge, Maths in Advent, and the European Art Competition are offered.

Question: What opportunities do I have with a secondary school leaving certificate? 
Answer: A secondary school leaving certificate (intermediate level) opens up many opportunities: vocational training (dual vocational training), further education (vocational college, vocational high school, etc.). The local career guidance service can provide further information.
